Cover Photos
Just after I started working at Hammond Inc. in 1985, I proudly hung a few of my favorite photos around my cubicle. One day the art director saw my photo of Delicate Arch and asked if he could use it on one of our books. I was thrilled. ...They even paid me for it - what a deal!
One of the benefits of working for a publishing company that makes vacation guides is that they use vacation pictures. (And one of the disadvantages of working in a publishing company is that they tend to go out of business).

It was a few years before I sold another one. Apparently the owners weren't as fond as red rocks as I was. But then we got a new art director and things picked up.

This is my second favorite cover shot - and only one without red rocks in it.

Then in 2000, things started really picking up. Hammond was purchased by Langenscheidt, who also owns American Map Corporation, who also makes travel atlases (...they also own Hagstrom, who publishes local atlases with local photos, but I don't take any pictures around here). Plus they seem to like red rock pictures more than the previous owners. Bonus!

Can you spot anything wrong with the above picture? Probably not - unless you're from Colorado Springs.
